Teesside-based Caswells Group has made its second acquisition in two years, purchasing Macclesfield-based Cutler Cleaning for a six-figure sum.
Founded in 1962, Caswells Group has spent over 50 years supplying businesses across the country with PPE, janitorial, safety and hose/hydraulic supplies, and has now acquired Cutlers which was founded in 1982, for £1.6million - retaining all 25 of its staff.
Commercial Director at Caswells, Paul Murphy explains: “We have worked with Cutlers for around 10 years as Jangro colleagues and we share a similar business ethos. There is a complimentary skill set, our teams have worked together closely and like us, the business has a loyal, long standing customer base, so it made perfect sense. We’re excited for this next chapter and can’t wait to work with the team.”
Cutler Cleaning has an annual turnover of £4.5million, as well as 10 vehicles and a 14,000sq ft warehouse, stocking all manner of cleaning, janitorial and PPE supplies.
Paul Whitehead, previous managing director at Cutlers said: “I had been looking to retire and sell the business, but wanted to protect the interests of our customers and staff during that process. We have worked with Caswells for many years and I know that this is a positive move which will ensure the ongoing success of the business and be of great benefit to both sides.”
Caswells Group was advised by Anderson Barrowcliffe and Knights Plc, and Cutler Cleaning was advised by Higgs LLP.
Caswells supports many local charities including Butterwick Hospice and The Moses Project, and made numerous donations of PPE and sanitising products to causes and local hospitals during the Covid19 pandemic.

As we enter the festive season, everyone at Caswells is very excited to enjoy their favourite Christmas treats and spend time with their nearest and dearest! In this blog, we want to wish you a very merry Christmas, and to point out some of the products in our catalogue that can make your festive season a success.
Christmas Dinner: Catering Supplies
Many workplaces will plan some kind of Christmas meal, buffet, or food-based event during the holidays; it is a great way to boost morale amongst your staff, and to spread some festive cheer. The Caswells product range features a huge variety of catering disposables, to ensure that nobody gets stuck with a mountain of washing up! We stock paper, plastic, bagasse and foil options, perfect for any workplace celebration. There are also recyclable single-use options, helping your organisation to minimise your impact on the environment — that is sure to get you onto Santa’s Nice List!
Banish the Chill with Our Portable Heaters
Amidst the dark evenings, the flurries of snow, and the typical Great British rain, keeping your workplace warm enough for the comfort of your staff is vital. Caswells sells four different portable heaters, including propane, fan, and convector models. There are options to suit spaces of varying sizes and uses, allowing you to keep your people cosy this winter.
Car Care and Winter Products
We all know that Santa needs Rudolph’s shiny red nose to light the way — but travelling by car in the winter can be just as challenging! Caswells supplies a line of products to keep vehicles, car parks and walkways clear of ice and snow, keeping your workplace safe for both staff and visitors. This includes salt and grit bins, salt spreaders, demister, and even rubber chocks. Even if your staff use their personal vehicles, please consider keeping some emergency de-icer around your premises for communal use — we know that you care about your people, and this can really help to make sure that they get home safely whilst they are driving home for Christmas.
Merry Christmas from the Caswells team! We hope you have a wonderful holiday season. To explore our range of high-quality workplace supplies, including the products mentioned here, you can browse our website or contact our in-house sales team here.

Warmer Workwear
For staff that spend a lot of time outside, insulated workwear is essential during the colder months. Our Winter Essentials range includes knit caps and balaclavas and insulated base layers from tops to leggings. To help your people complete their tasks safely whilst staying warm, we also have a beanie featuring an LED headlight for additional visibility, and latex grip gloves designed to deal with cold and wet conditions.
Vehicle Maintenance
Maintaining vehicles regularly is vital during the winter, whether you have a fleet of commercial vehicles or simply want to keep your staff safe during their commutes. At Caswells, we offer a variety of Winter Essentials kits (including products like de-icer and screen wash), perfect for keeping in the vehicle or stocking in the office for staff use. We also stock de- and pre-icers, antifreeze, demister pads, diesel exhaust additive, and even booster cables to ensure that everyone can get to and from work safely.
Heat and Lights for Darker Nights
Visibility and temperature are both key considerations during the winter — luckily, the Caswells Winter Essentials range has you covered! We have included headlamps and a variety of mini torches to help your people navigate the darker conditions. The range also features both convection and fan heaters to help keep your workplace comfortable.
